Underscore Native News is a nonprofit investigative newsroom dedicated to producing in-depth, Indigenous-centered reporting in the Pacific Northwest.

Underscore Native News focuses on bringing attention to Native communities and the issues affecting them, which are often overlooked or misrepresented in mainstream media. By emphasizing relationship-building, cultural nuance, and historical context, Underscore Native News seeks to combat stereotypes and invisibility that contribute to modern forms of racism.

The organization is committed to addressing structural inequities within the media industry and society, offering a holistic approach to journalism that includes investigations into systemic injustices and showcasing the diversity and strength of Indigenous cultures. Their work aims to create a more equitable media landscape, enhance democracy, and improve diversity in journalism, all while demonstrating the potential of innovative nonprofit models in a struggling news industry.

Tim Wilson served Underscore Native News as a development consultant from September 2023 through May 2024, working on grant prospecting, writing, and editing.
