  • Don Cherry Jim Pepper

    Cherry/Pepper

Currently in development is Delbert’s tribute to Don Cherry (Choctaw) and Jim Pepper (Kaw and Muscogee Creek), two icons of Native American Jazz. The project celebrates the profound contributions of these Native American Jazz legends, highlighting Don Cherry's unbounded embrace of music from every corner of the world and Pepper's unique integration of Native American music into jazz. Delbert hopes the project will resurface interest in their music, and their close friendship and influence on one another. Anderson's tribute will include Cherry and Pepper classics (and maybe an overlooked gem or two), and Delbert’s compositions written in homage of these extraordinary players and composers, preserving their legacy and the rich history of jazz. The project will feature members of the Delbert Anderson Quartet along with some extraordinary guest artists.

  • The Long Walk of the Navajo/Diné

    The Long Walk

Anderson's The Long Walk: 1,674 Days, is a powerful tribute to the Navajo people's resilience during their forced relocation from 1863 to 1868. This unique durational composition, performed over 1,674 days, honors the memory and spirit of those who endured the Long Walk. Each event invites reflection and connection to Navajo history and culture. The piece invites participants to engage with the piece as a spiritual meditation, a contemplation of history, and a metaphoric journey. The Long Walk welcomes musicians, singers, and all community members to join the journey of remembrance, reflection, and renewal.
