ROOM-i-Nation
Gig theatre may be an unexpected form for a classically-trained Karnatik singer, but this is a story that Aditya Prakash can’t tell with music alone. Join us on the incomparable multimedia journey of ROOM-i-Nation, a thoughtful and compelling exploration of identity and tradition through the lens of music and storytelling. Prakash’s ROOM-i-Nation weaves together the threads of Karnatik classical music with the history of Asian immigration and stories of identity and belonging to offer a nuanced take on navigating two worlds. ROOM-i-Nation brings to life Aditya’s 2023 album ISOLASHUN using live music, a soundscape, an Akram Khan dance film specific to the project, video projection, and personal stories to illuminate the immigrant and diasporic experience and offer a hopeful look at bridging cultures, generations, and musical traditions. ROOM-i-Nation invites us all to reflect on our stories of belonging and authenticity. The project draws from Aditya's experiences growing up in Los Angeles, training in India, performing from a young age, and his deep engagement with Karnatik music and contemporary sounds. “His narrative is one of discovery, challenging traditional boundaries while embracing a complex identity. It's an acknowledgment of the richness that comes from embracing our multifaceted selves and the art that emerges from this acceptance.
“Aditya Prakash is a visionary artist who has found a way to speak to everyone while speaking in his own language” Tigran Hamasyan

Lotus and Dagger
Lotus and Dagger is a transformative musical project developed by Aditya Prakash during his residency at Figureight Records. Upon completion, the album will feature eight to nine original compositions that merge structured songwriting with improvisational elements. Produced by Grammy-award winning artists, William Brittelle and Shahzad Ismaily, and supported by the collaborative efforts of a diverse group of New York-based musicians, Lotus and Dagger promises to be a deeply reflective and cathartic musical journey that challenges and expands the traditional boundaries of musical expression.

Aditya Prakash Ensemble
Founded in 2010, the Aditya Prakash Ensemble, the group’s unique collaboration took root during the members’ ethnomusicology studies at UCLA.. While bridging seemingly disparate styles of music, they create a boldly innovative and dynamic blend of the deep-rooted Indian ragas and rhythms with the sounds of jazz harmony, brass instrumentation and hip hop-infused beats. The ensemble has established a space where the sounds of Karnatik and jazz intertwine in an engaging, contemporary way — a musical dialogue that is eminently accessible and playful yet powerful.
Their latest album, Diaspora Kid garnered praise from Songlines, KCRW and was featured in the top 15 albums on the Transglobal World Music Chart in May 2020. Aditya Prakash Ensemble was selected by the acclaimed festival showcase, GlobalFEST, to perform a NPR Tiny Desk concert in 2021.
The Ensemble has performed at notable venues across the globe, including the Kennedy Center’a Millennium Stage in Washington DC, Esplanade Theatres by the Bay in Singapore, The New Parks Festival (a six-city India tour), and at such prestigious Los Angeles venues as The Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, The Ford, The Getty Center and The Skirball Center.
